Aboriginal Cultural Safety Specialist
Dewayne is a certified trainer delivering cultural awareness training for the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre for the past five years.
Dewayne is passionate about bridging the gap of understanding and inspiring cultural allies by building confidence in non-Aboriginal people when engaging and working alongside Tasmanian Aboriginal people.
Dewayne has focused on increasing the best practice of standards and his commitment to promoting excellence in cultural safety training standards has led him to establish his own business, mina nina.
He has developed a cultural safety proficiency pathway that provides a comprehensive and meaningful approach to engagement and consultation with Tasmanian Aboriginal people.
Dewayne Everettsmith, who is a proud palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) and gunaikurnai (Aboriginal nation of Victoria), has been recognised with a Human Rights Week award for his efforts in bringing Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and language to the broader community, educating children, and working towards the protection of his Aboriginal heritage.
